Web Development Tools

This section lists the types of web development tools (scripting languages and applications) you can use on your server.

  • .NET Framework: A software technology that is available with several Microsoft Windows operating systems. It includes a large library of pre-coded solutions to common programming problems and a virtual machine that manages the execution of programs written specifically for the framework.
  • ASP.NET: A web application framework developed and marketed by Microsoft. Programmers can use it to build dynamic websites, web applications and web services.
  • PHP (PHP Hypertext Preprocessor): A scripting language used to create dynamic website pages that sometimes includes command line interface capabilities.
  • Full CGI Bin (Common Gateway Interface Binary File) Access: The ability to access and configure how CGI scripts (programs) are executed by the server (i.e. e-commerce, message boards, databases or any content that responds to web user input).
  • XML (Extensible Markup Language): A general-purpose specification for creating custom markup languages that allows its users to define their own elements. Its primary purpose is to help information systems share structured data, particularly via the Internet, and it is used both to encode documents and to serialize data.
  • Jscript: The Microsoft version of JavaScript and ECMAScript. It's commonly used on web pages for scripting and other embedding scenarios. It can be "plugged in" to any application that supports Windows Script, such as Internet Explorer, Active Server Pages, and Windows Script Host.
  • PERL: A multi-purpose programming language used primarily for text files, graphic programming, system administration, network programming and applications that require database access.
All Windows® VWS plans offer: .NET Framework 3.5, ASP.NET 2.0, ASP, PHP, CGI, XML, JScript, PERL
